Obviously it will not suit everyone and it is essential to check the pros and cons of this system, such as the use of heaters and air conditioners. Fitting timers to appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers and water heaters and using a kettle on a gas hob are a few of the things that would allow you to take full advantage of the cheaper rate. As always, please check this information with Endesa should you wish to go ahead with this new system.
Shop News: If you haven’t been to the Age Concern shop in Es Castell for a while, please go and take a look. It’s fabulous and we now have our Spring Stock available. I realised recently that there was no point telling you all to go and have a look if I hadn’t even been myself. In under half an hour I left with a great selection of birthday presents, books, clothes and a new bath mat, all for under €15.00. If you are having a Spring Clean or are sorting your property out ready for the summer season, please see if you have any unwanted gifts, good quality clothes, household items or furniture which you could donate for sale in the shop. Please contact Sandy Berresford on 971 377 791 or 650 729 430 if you would like any items collected.
The shop is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday mornings, from 09.30 to 13.00 hours and ca be found on Calle Cala Pedera 39, Es Castell.
Medical Equipment: Here at Age Concern we have lots of medical equipment in stock which can be loaned for a maximum period of three months for a returnable deposit. At the end of the loan period we ask for a donation which is used for the maintenance of current equipment and the purchase of new equipment.
Our Medical Equipment stock includes: Wheelchairs, Wheelchair Ramps, Walking Frames, Crutches, Walking Sticks, Commodes, Toilet Frames, Male Toilet Bottles, Bed Pans, Bath Boards, Shower Chairs and Stools, Wheeled Shower Chairs and Bed Frames. Please contact John Renny on 971 377 063 for more information.
SKY: Anyone who has been on the island during the winter will have heard that it seems we will be having fairly serious reception problems this year. At the time of writing this article it is still unclear if or how we are going to be able to resolve this issue. I am in contact with Nigel Taylor of Satellite Services and will keep you posted. Click here to see the information that Nigel provided last month (February 2013) to give you an idea of what might happen.
Lifeline: We have had a very busy winter helping those in need and, thanks to your generous donations to our regular raffles at the monthly lunches and the Grand Tombola in November, we were able to distribute many more much needed hampers (as well as food to local food banks) than before during December.
Don’t forget, we are here to help you, our Lifeline Officer is Denise Goddard and you can contact her, in absolute confidence, on 971 377 612 or 676 904 487.
We all know that the economic situation continues to be tough and money is short but we cannot stress enough how much your money really does make a difference to others in greater need than ourselves. So, if you can help us out, please do. We now have new Donation Boxes in the Bella Vista Bar and Bar Pons in Calan Porter (thank you to Johnny and Juan). Any loose change (or big notes!) would be much appreciated. Finally, it would really help us if those of you who have not paid your 2013 Subscriptions could please pay them now.
