Christmas Fairs and Markets have become increasingly popular in Menorca over recent years, offering an excellent opportunity to buy some interesting locally crafted gifts and festive produce for both Christmas and Reyes in January. Most of the larger towns now hold a Christmas Market or Fira de Nadal during the first weekends in December. If you missed the Christmas and Artisans Markets in Es Castell and Sant Lluís on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 December, don’t worry, there are both indoor and outdoor Christmas markets taking place around Menorca this week, as follows. (Don’t forget Thursday 6 and Saturday 8 December are both public holidays, however while banks, business and most shops will be closed on Thursday, shops will be open on Saturday morning to take advantage of the Christmas shopping period.)
Mahón: Selling everything you need for the festive period, this outdoor Christmas market is in Calle Ses Moreres, Plaça Colon and Plaça Constitució from Thursday 6 to Sunday 9 December 2012, open between 10.00 and 21.00 hours each day Thursday to Saturday and until 13.30 hours on Sunday.
Ciutadella: Offering a wonderful festive collection of gifts, cosmetics, decorations and local produce from shops around Ciutadella, this market is all under one roof at the Sala Polivalent Canal Salat, from Thursday 6 to Sunday 9 December 2012. Open between 10.00 and 14.00 hours and 17.00 and 21.00 hours on Thursday and Saturday, from 17.00 to 21.00 hours on Friday and from 10.00 to 14.00 hours on Sunday.
Alaior: In its 8th year, this Christmas market is a real community event selling a wide variety of gifts from the shops and artisans of Alaior in the Carrer and Plaça Ramai on Saturday 8 December from 10.00 to 22.00 hours and on Sunday 9 December from 10.00 to 14.30 hours. On Saturday during the day there will be a visit by the Giants of Maó and Father Christmas, Christmas workshops and performance by the Lou Deach Quartet at 18.00 hours.
Ferreries: Mini winter markets are being held on Saturday 8 and Saturday 15 December 2012 in the Plaça d’Espanya from 09.00 to 13.00 hours. The 10th Ferreries Fira de Nadal is on Saturday 15 December from 10.00 to 14.00 hours and from 16.00 to 21.00 hours and from 10.00 to 14.00 hours on Sunday 16 December, also in Plaça d’Espanya. With various children’s activities taking place, music and stalls selling all sorts of hand crafted gifts and local produce, there is a great festive atmosphere.
