We were pleased to welcome new members in March. Mo Newman came along at the beginning of the month. She was not sure how useful she would be on her first visit, but by the end of the meeting she was enjoying herself and looking forward to the next one. Two weeks later she was improving her crochet skills. You can see in the photograph above of her with Pat Baylley and Anna Fellowes who are old friends, that she has settled in happily enough, although she is not keen on the camera (or is it the photographer?) but she will get used to it, no choice really…!
Christine Drew from Cala en Porter also joined us in March. She found out about the Group through Celia Hanes who encouraged her to come along. Christine can be seen ‘stuffing and stitching’ with Celia on her first week. It’s a better alternative to stitching and bitching and much more productive. Christine must have enjoyed her visit as she has been returning each week to join in the productivity, fun and sometimes sheer panic whenever the Spring Sale is mentioned.
Ruth Carreras has returned to the Group. She hadn’t been able to come for some time as her husband is not well. Welcome back Ruth. She is a friend of Vera Fraser and was soon joining in again. She is pictured with Vera working hard to release fabric samples from their frames donated by a furnishing outlet. I don’t think it was an easy job, more frustration followed by a feeling of euphoria when the fabric finally comes away from the frame.
The following week I was absent, but Carol Weston made notes for me and it seems that the fabric samples have been transformed into beautiful summer scarves and table runners. There is also a shopping bag made from the fabric. She also reports that during the week of 26 March, more boxes were sorted and decisions were made as to whether some of the donated stock should be sold at the Spring Fair or kept exclusively for the Group to use. This is always a difficult decision, based more on lack of storage. Lynda spent time cutting out fabric jam pot covers (the photo of the little blue and white hat below is Lynda’s work), while a group were sorting and carding buttons for the haberdashery stall and making pads for more cushions.
With only six weeks to go to the Spring Fair on Saturday 11 May, the group will be extremely busy making ideas a reality and producing more of the popular items from previous sales. Our card makers, Jan, Jane and newcomer Marga, are coming up with new design ideas for cards all the time, so look for them when you come along to our Spring Sale.
Carol reports that as well as the scarves, table runners and fabric shopping bag there were the usual array of lovely cushions, aprons, peg bags and knitted items in lovely spring colours for tiny people. In the meantime don’t forget to visit our Facebook page, where you can find news, photographs, recipes, meeting times and address, useful numbers etc. We would also like to receive your comments, questions and suggestions about what you would like to see included on our Page.
