Mo Newman has produced some beautiful embroidered cushions, pin cushions, lavender bags and other items despite being just a little unsure of what she would be able to contribute in her first week! (See Photo). Jan, Jane and Marga have produced a new stock of cards, with each of them working on new ideas and designs. They will also be available at the Spring Fair, so if you want a really unique card (no card is exactly like another) give yourself plenty of time to sift through their stock.
Sue Woolley has produced some wonderful fabric bags in various sizes with William Morris designs which are sure to be popular. She has also produced a lot of other items, too numerous to mention here, but are pictured on our Facebook page. Check out the very pretty tooth fairy cushions, complete with a pocket for a tooth. Strictly for tiny teeth suitable for the Fairy Queen’s necklaces (I have it on good authority that she won’t pay out on a full set, even if they are pearly white..!)
Chris Tomlinson came back after her holiday with some padded hangers, really pretty, and she has also made some candle rings for table decorations. We gained a new member in the second week. Pamela Johnson from Trebaluger, who came along encouraged (or persuaded) by Mo, but also knows Pat and Anna. They made up a gang of four on a table in the corner, sewing, knitting, chatting, laughing. The following week Pam had made some heart shaped lavender bags and a few new friends other than Mo, Pat and Anna.
Geraldine, who joined when the Group met in Llumacanes two years ago, came back. She now lives in Mercadal and was brought along by Jan. She spent the morning sorting out donated cards that could be used for new stock. Not the most exciting job, but she enjoyed being with us all, chatting and laughing; even though one person, who shall remain nameless, mistakenly took her for Jan’s Mother who is due to visit. The person in question hadn’t looked at Geraldine, just jumped in, camera in hand, ready to take a photograph..! Geraldine took it very well, considering she would have been about ten years old when she gave birth.
Linda Cook, who some months ago brought along her computer to show us the Mr Finch pictures of various animals, insects and birds made with vintage and naturally sourced materials, spent a morning with us sorting buttons with Carol and Mo. It was a morning of sorting fabrics and trimmings into ‘keep’ or ‘sell’ sections. Avril came to see us, she does hand painted pictures on fabric and brought some lovely samples of children’s pictures. If you have any unwanted picture frames she would be grateful to have them, just bring them along to Scandals on any Tuesday morning, we can pass them on to her. Marjorie, our member who makes jewellery and other items returned for a visit. She doesn’t live in Menorca but visits during the year and has been a member of the Group for a few years. She made some lovely nursery patterned cushions and other items for the Sale (see photo).
Also amongst our run of visitors and new members were Janet Parr and Elaine Martin from S’Algar (see photo above) who donated some useful odds and ends and may become members. A lady who wishes to remain anonymous came along with some retro knitted tea cosies which are currently very popular. You can see a photo of them on our Facebook page. We have now had our last Group meeting before the Spring Sale on Saturday 11 May. There are a lot more items than have been described or pictured here and on Facebook. Why not spend the morning browsing, or better still, buying..?
