Menorca Live Eating Out Guide: Great Family Food

Finding a place to eat with food to suit everyones tastes is sometimes difficult.  Sharing plates called Tapas are delicious bite sized pieces of Spanish food.   For example Albondigas (meatballs).  Which are ideal to try for the first time, but be warned, it is easy to just keep ordering more once you start.  Ask for tapas portions instead of Raciones (which are bigger).  Some restaurants will have their own version of a typical tapa dish that has been passed down through the generations, along with a typical list of tapas served all over Spain.

Whatever your tastes are in food, Menorca has a vary varied offering.  Recommending restaurants is difficult as we all have different budgets, taste & requirements.  This said, we aim to show is a comprehensive guide, so whether you want fine dining, slow local food or family friendly, there is something to suit all tastes and budgets.

Menu del Día:

It is very hard to recommend restaurants because everybody’s  taste is different.  However a good indication of a popular restaurant is if it’s full of locals.  There are many restaurants that offer “Menu del Día” which is a 2 or 3 course menu severed during at lunchtime and often very competitive in price.  You can expect to pay from as little as 12€ up to about 25€.  This is for many locals, their main meal of the day.  This generally includes soup/salad, a main course with a side dish of veg or potatoes followed by a dessert or coffee.  A glass of wine and water are sometimes included.  Every restaurant have their different variations.  It is a great way to try Spanish food and experience Spanish culture and good value for money.

Restaurant Bar España

Comments:

Situated in the centre of Mahon, close to the Santa Maria Church, for over 10 years husband and wife Patxi and Maria and their son Martin, have been running one of Mahon’s favourite restaurants.  Open for breakfast, lunch and evening meals, they serve a wide range of fresh Mediterranean dishes.  Their Saturday lunchtime Pinchitos (posh tapas) are a must!  If you ever see Almejas (Clams) or Mejillones (Muscles) on the Menu, you must try them.  It’s worth a visit just for them!  Patxi has one of the most extensive wine lists of any restaurant on the island, so if you’re a wine buff it’s the place for you.
