From the minute you walk down the steps to the restaurant, the welcoming atmosphere of Alcalde is apparent – stylish yet relaxed. There is a small garden to the front, perfect for morning coffee or afternoon tea, and large terrace with comfortable seating that leads through to the grill and outside dining area, a main feature being the breathtaking views over the large horseshoe shaped beach. Inside there is a smart bar offering an extensive list of traditional and gin cocktails with a bright and airy indoor dining room beyond facing out to sea.

As for the food, again Agustin and Teresa have thought of everything to keep you coming back to Alcalde. Perhaps a snack at lunchtime, fresh meat or fish cooked to your liking on the grill, romantic terrace dining while watching the sun set over the sea or paella to share with friends for a lazy Sunday lunch…the list goes on. In addition, Alcalde offers a well priced Menu del Dia at €15 to include three courses, bread and water, a Menu del Noche at €19 which changes weekly and a special children’s menu at €6.50.

The A La Carte menu features a good variety of Spanish and international dishes with starters from €7.50 such as aubergines with prawns, garlic prawns, beef carpaccio, foie gras and goats cheese salad. Main courses from €12.50 include duck breast with wild berries, roasted and confit of suckling pig, rabbit with garlic and various steaks cuts along with a Chateaubriand for two at €21.00 each. There is also a good selection of fresh fish cooked to your liking from €13.50. At weekends, the outside grill 'braseria' is fired up, giving a new dimension to the cooking. Desserts start at €3.50 with choices such as chocolate pancakes, amaretto ice cream, lemon mousse tart and caramelised pineapple.

The wine list includes well priced red, white and rose wines from the major wine producing regions of Spain as well as wines from Mallorca and Menorca, cavas and Sangria made with either red wine or cava. The house wines are good value starting at €8.50 a bottle.

Originating from Valencia, the home of Spanish rice dishes, Agustin and Teresa have also introduced their special rice 'arroceria' menu which includes traditional ‘wet’ rice dishes, fideua and authentic paellas which should not be missed. If you would rather not eat in, don’t worry, a take away service is available both at lunchtime and in the evening enabling you to enjoy a fantastic paella at home without the hassle.

This year sees experienced French chef Sebastien Gros join the Alcalde team, bring with him enhancements to the cuisine. Front of house is Gabriel, or Sampo as he is known to friends, who is a familiar face having been with the restaurant for nine years and previously worked at some of Menorca’s best known restaurants.

Holidays are all about keeping everyone entertained and again Alcalde rises to the challenge with a well equipped children’s play area including a Wii games console, large screen TVs both inside and out with Sky Sports and WiFi.

Alcalde Restaurant and Lounge Bar is open every day from 11.00 until late, from April until the end of October, with food and drinks served throughout the day. During November, the restaurant is open at weekends only.
