Located in the centre of Playa de Fornells, Es Cactus is the perfect holiday retreat away from the sun, beaches and general hubbub of busy resort life. Here, you can wander in whenever the mood takes you, perhaps for breakfast, a quiet drink while reading the paper or to use the free Wifi or internet café area. A full English
breakfast is served all morning and snacks are served throughout the day with a wide choice of filled baguettes from just €3.25 and tapas or light bites such as garlic mushrooms, roast chicken wings and ‘patatas bravas.
If you fancy a quick and easy meal at any time, there are various omelets served with salad from €6.30, freshly prepared salads from €6, including the special Es Cactus salad with duck ham and fruit, and pasta dishes starting at €6.45 for spaghetti carbonara. A well priced pizza menu with 25 different options from €6.95 and a special rice menu featuring paellas, risottos, fideuas (noodles) and typical ‘wet’ rice stews are also available.
For more formal style eating, there are three different menus to choose from as well as the chef’s suggestions and the A la carte menu, all perfect for a long, lazy lunch or dinner sitting on the large covered open dining terrace. The great value Menu del Dia at €14.25 offers a wide selection of starters and main courses, with meat, fish and vegetarian options, plus a dessert. There is a special Menorquin menu enabling you to taste some authentic island cuisine, priced at €16.25 for two courses with three choices for each and a dessert. The ‘Menu Degustación’ is a Menorcan seafood indulgence with two options, one with the typical Caldereta de Langosta (Fornells is home to this luxurious lobster stew) and the other with freshly grilled lobster at €36 and €45 respectively.
The chef’s suggestions feature imaginative dishes such as goats cheese lolipop with tomato jam at €5.75, pasta triangles filled with spicy sausage and honey at
€6.75, beef tenderloin with foie gras and Pedro Ximenez reduction at €22.25, roast suckling kid at €13.75 and Menorcan monkfish stew with prawn sauce at €17.50. The extensive list of starters, fish, shellfish and meat main courses on the A la carte menu are all good value and you would be hard pressed not to find something that exactly suited your mood or appetite…especially as all options on all menus can be mixed and matched. To accompany your meal, there’s a good selection of Spanish Red, White and Rosé wines along with traditional ‘Sangrias’ and to finish, perhaps try the ‘Chupitos’, small glasses of liquor.
What’s more, special dietary needs are well catered for and Juan is always willing to suggest and prepare gluten free menus or accommodate any other specific dietary needs. All you need to do is ask.
Es Cactus is open every day from May to late October, from 09.00 until 23.00 hours, when Pili and Juan are there to welcome you and ensure your visit is a memorable part of your holiday. The kitchen remains open throughout the day.
