18.00 hrs: Children’s party and games in the Plaça d’Espanya.
21.00 hrs: The fiestas are officially announced at the Pla de l’Església with music from the Banda de Música de Ferreries (municipal band of Ferreries).
22.15 hrs: Grand dance for the Caixers (horse riders) with music by Duo Blue Moon in Carrer Nou.
Friday 23 August12.00 noon:
The Fiesta Flag of Sant Bartomeu, patron saint of Ferreries, is handed to the CaixerSobreposat, followed by the first notes played on the ‘fabiol’ (flute) and the Staff of Office is presented to the Caixer Batle (Fiesta Mayor) as a symbol of authority.
The Municipal Band plays the Ferreries anthem and the Junta de Caixers (Fiesta Committee) goes to the old people’s home to announce the start of the fiesta.
The committee accompanies the Caixer Batlessa and Caixer Capellà (Fiesta Priest) to their respective homes while the Fabiolera, Caixer Casat and Ciaxer Pages accompany the Caixer Sobreposat home. Traditional little candles are handed out to the townspeople.
16.00 hrs: A peal of bells and burst of rockets proclaim the start of the festivities. The Giants and carnival figures then set out around the town, accompanied by the Municipal Band, inviting people to join the fiesta.
16.45 hrs: The Fabioler collects the Caixer Sobreposat and they go to ask the Caixer Batlessa for permission to gather the cavalcade. The rest of the Caixers join the cavalcade and they go to collect the Caixer Casat, Ciaxer Pages, Caixer Capellà and finally the Caixer Batlessa before proceeding to the Town Hall.
19.00 hrs: The traditional ‘Jaleo’ takes place and the ciaxers enter the main square in the old part of the town in pairs to demonstrate their equestrian skills and encourage their magnificent Menorcan horses to ‘dance’. This lasts about three hours and is followed by the ‘carogol’ where the riders parade around the main streets of the town. Afterwards, Evening Mass (Compline) takes place in the parish church of Sant Bartomeu in honour of the apostle and patron saint of Ferreries.
Saturday 24 August
08.00 hrs: Morning Reveille around the streets with the Giants, carnival figures and Municipal Band of Ferreries.
08.45 hrs: The Cavalcade parades the town, finishing in the Pla de l’Església (church square).
11.00 am: The second ‘Jaleo’ takes place, followed by the presentation of the traditional trophies of green canes and silver spoons to the participating horse riders.
The cavalcade then tours the main streets of the town, before returning to the church square for Mass for the Caixers in the parish church, attended by the horse riders and town dignitaries, where the traditional ‘aigua-ros’ is distributed to the riders.
Afterwards the Town Hall invites the Caixers for the traditional ‘beguda’ (refreshments) while the Municipal Band plays the fiesta music. The Caixers then accompany the Caixer Batlessa and the Caixer Capellà home. The Fiesta Flag is returned to the Town Hall and the last notes on the fabiol are played and the cavalcade disperses, marking the end of the formalities. The riders distribute the aigua-ros to houses around the town.
20.00 hrs: Children’s entertainment with the animation group from the Hotel Sol Gavilanes at the Plaça d’Espanya.
23.00 hrs: Live music with Katy Cris in Carrer Nou.
24.00 hrs: Grand public dance with the group Sarau at the football pitch.
Sunday 25 August
10.00 hrs: Mass in honour of those in the municipality who have died during the past year at the Santa Maria church.
11.00 hrs: Donkey Jaleo (a light hearted and fun version of the traditional event) in the Pla de l’Església.
14.30 hrs: Foam party in the Plaça d’Espanya.
19.30 hrs: Children’s entertainment with El Mon Magic de Edu in Carrer Nou.
22.30 hrs: Grand public dance with Oasis and DJ Febre in the Plaça d’Espanya.
24.00 hrs: Grand firework display followed by a burst of firecrackers as the Fiesta Finale in the Avda Son Morera.
00.15 hrs: The music and dancing continues until well into the early hours.
