19.00 hrs onwards: Artisans market in Calle Nou and Plaça de Pare Camps selling all sorts of crafts and local produce.
Friday 19 July
20.00 hrs:Children’s entertainment, music and dancing with Pinyeta Pinyol in Plaça de Pare Camps.
22.30 hrs: Traditional ‘Ball des Pastisset’ with the band Oasis, followed by a public dance with a local group from Es Mercadal, Black Pearl, in Plaça de Pare Camps.
Saturday 20 July
10.00 hrs: The children paint greetings posters for the fiestas while they wait for the Giants of Es Mercadal. (It is recommended they wear old clothes so they can have more fun..!)
12.00 hrs: Arrival of the Giants of Es Mercadal, Martí and Maria from the Recinto Ferial who make their way to the Town Hall accompanied by the municipal band of Es Mercadal.
17.00 hrs: The bells ring out and the Fabioler (herald) goes to the Town Hall to requestpermission to start the Fiestas before playing the first notes on his flute (toc de fabiol). He then collects the Caixera Sobreposada and they go to fetch the Fiesta Flag from the Town Hall. They summon the equestrian cavalcade according to traditional protocol starting with the Caixer Pagès and Caixer Casat. Meanwhile, the Municipal Band tours the streets with the Maó Giants and carnival figures.
18.00 hrs: The cavalcade collects the Caixer Capellà from the Plaça de l’Esglesia and the Caixer Batle (Fiesta Mayor) who presides over the Qualcada (cavalcade). The party then proceeds to the Town Hall where the Caixer Batle receives the Staff of Office from the Mayor of Es Mercadal, before continuing through the town to the Plaça Constitució.
19.00 hrs: The traditional ‘Jaleo’ takes place in the Plaça Constitució which is followed by the Caragol around the main streets of the town.
23.45 hrs: The Compline (evening) service is held at the parish church of Sant Martí attended by all the horsemen and authorities during which small candles (candeletas) are distributed by the younger riders. It is traditional to keep them alight until arriving at the traditional meal (beguda) for the caixers (horse riders). After the official reception for dignitaries and their guests at the Town Hall, the caixers have their meal.
01.00 hrs onwards: The fiesta continues in the Plaça Pere Camps with the music of J L Febre.
Sunday 21 July
08.30 hrs: Morning reveille as The Bugle and Drum Band of Dalt Sant Joan start the festivities.
09.00 hrs: The Fabioler sets off to summon the cavalcade, following the same route of the previous day.
11.00 hrs: The second ‘Jaleo’ takes place in the Plaça Constitució followed by the presentation of the traditional green canes and silver spoons. Mass is then held in the church of Sant Martí with all the caixers and authorities, during which the ‘aigua-ros’ (rosewater) is distributed.
Afterwards, the Town Hall hosts a reception for the riders and people of the town during which the Mayor receives the Fiesta Flag from the Ciaxer Sobreposat. The caixers then escort the Caixer Batle and the Caixer Capellà to their homes and the last ‘toc’ (note) is played on the ‘fabiol’ (flute). In the late afternoon, the young ciaxers distribute the aigua-ros around the houses in the town.
19.30 hrs: Children’s entertainment with circus acts from the group Impulse in Plaça de Pare Camps.
21.00 hrs: Live music performance with Moments A Cor in Plaça de Pare Camps.
23.30 hrs: Grand public dance with music from the group Huracán in Plaça de Pare Camps.
Monday 22 July
10.00 – 20.00 hrs: Open day at the municipal swimming pool.
11.00 hrs: Remembrance Mass in the parish church for those people of Es Mercadal who have died during the past year.
12.00 noon: Children’s foam party for over 7’s in the CP Mare de Deu del Toro school playground. (Younger children must be accompanied by an adult).
18.30 hrs: Popular traditional games for all ages, children and adults, organised by J L Febrer at the Plaça Constitució.
22.00 hrs: Grand firework display from the public area, Ses Alzines.
22.30 hrs: Magnificent concert by the group Jukebox Band Menorca with a spectacle entitled ‘Obrim avui’ (Now Open), featuring Spanish pop music of the 80sin the Plaça de Pare Camps. Afterwards, a public dance to end the fiesta celebrations for 2013 with the group Oasis.
Wednesday 24 July
20.00 hrs: Family Show in the street, ‘Bagui – Bagui, Apollo 19!’, by the Pistacho Theatre Company.
