PDFprintemail

LLC_MenorcaNot wishing to miss the opportunity for a celebration, the Ladies Luncheon Club has decided to make its June meeting a very dazzling event. To enter into the spirit of the Diamond Jubilee, the Club has decided to invite members only to a special meal and party at its El Picadero Club House. It is hoped that there will be a splendid array of red, white and blue attire and that the Ladies will don their sparkling best ‘diamonds’ to help everyone glitter their way through a very happy and patriotic event. So, if you are a member of Ladies Luncheon Club and you wish to join in the fun at this Historic Diamond Jubilee Event on Wednesday 6 June (the day after the actual event), please contact Shirley Smith to ensure yourself a seat at the table…and don’t forget to wear your ‘ rocks’…! Tel: 971 351706.

Ladies’ Probus Club Menorca – October Report

PDFprintemail

probusThe fabulous early Autumn weather continued for the monthly Ladies’ Probus Club meeting and lunch on Thursday 13 October. Following a last minute change of venue to El Picadero, Janet and the team rose to the occasion with an excellent three course meal including wine which was enjoyed by around 45 members and their guests.

It could have been the height of summer as the ladies chatted over pre-lunch drinks outside on the terrace. After lunch, President Carol Smith welcomed everyone, handed out birthday cards to no fewer than six members with October birthdays and gave a brief update on recent activities, with a promise of lots more to come during the cooler months. She then introduced the guest speaker, Anne Maddison.

Ladies Luncheon Club of Menorca Silver Jubilee

PDFprintemail

Glenys_FoleyThe first day of June, 1986 witnessed a group of British ladies living in Menorca sit down for lunch at the Picadero Restaurant just outside Mahon on the Sant Lluis road. The sole idea was to enjoy time together outside the home, share news, experiences and eat good food. And so the Ladies Luncheon Club of Menorca was born.

25 years later, the current members were reminded of this by founder member Jayne Wolstenholme as they joined together to celebrate their Silver Jubilee at El Picadero which is still their ‘Club House’. The sun shone as members and their guests walked up the path through bobbing balloons to partake of cava and canapés before sitting down to an excellent and, what seemed to be, never ending meal. The current President Glenys Foley joined Shirley Smith in welcoming everyone to the evening and in proposing a toast to the previous 25 years and to many more to come. Past Presidents mingled with both long standing and new members and their guests and were dazzled by the reflection from the silver decorations, especially those made for the tables by Marian Smith.
