Fiesta Del Mar Menorca 2013
Menorca in May is the place to be for lovers of watersports an outdoor pursuits. The Fiesta del Mar Menorca 2013 is now taking place at sporting venues around the island when, throughout the month, special discounted prices will be offered on water sports as well as other land based activities. A number of organised sporting events are also being held in May to coincide with this event for everyone can enjoy.
Following on from the success of last year, this second Fiesta del Mar (literally Sea Party, organised by the Estación Náutica de Menorca), is a celebration of the island’s close relationship with the sea. May in Menorca offers some of the best scenery for nautical sports fans and will see the 2013 summer season burst into life with a calendar packed full of sports, leisure and fun for all ages, preferences and levels of experience.
For those with a passion for Menorca’s crystal blue waters and spectacular coastline, there will be sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and scuba diving promotions for the move active, as well as less energetic options such as hiring a boat for the day or taking part in group excursions on board a catamaran or sail boat. For those who prefer to stay on dry land, the Fiesta del Mar also includes an interesting programme of horse riding trips, guided cycling tours and the opportunity to play a round of golf at Menorca’s only golf course, Golf Son Parc. Further options include tennis, paddle tennis or trying out one of Menorca’s fitness centres and wellness spas, again all at discounted prices.
Car Boot Sales, Menorca 2013
Spring is here and now is the perfect time to think about de-cluttering and getting ready to enjoy the summer. What better opportunity than a car boot sale…? And not just one, but two and both in aid of very good causes.

Red Cross Spring Fair 2013
Now a firm fixture on Menorca's events calendar, the very popular annual Red Cross Spring Fair is being held on Saturday 11 May 2013 from 10.00 until 13.00 hours at the AeroClub on the Maó to Sant Lluís road (next to the Trotting Hippodrome). Now in its 7th year, this fantastic charity event continues to get bigger and better each year with new stalls as well as all your favourites, including plants, books, bric-a-brac, preserves, cakes, crafts, cards, home linens, toys, clothing and a raffle.
The Red Cross Craft Group has been hard at work over the past couple of months creating some beautiful and unique hand crafted gifts, such as children’s clothes and buggy blankets, knitted toys, cushion covers, doorstops, tea cosies amongst many other goodies.
Festa de la Bicicleta 2013: Mao, Menorca
The second Great Bicycle Festival (Gran Festa de la Bicicleta) ‘Fun Ride’ takes place this weekend on Sunday 12 May 2013. Once again, it is hoped that hundreds of people will gather in Maó on two wheels at 11.00 hours before departing from the Plaça Constitució at 11.30 hours. The event is open to people of all ages – young and old, friends, family and business colleagues, to ‘get on their bikes’, the most important thing is to join in and have fun.
The 11km circuit will take the cyclists to Sant Lluís via Es Castell and Trepucó before returning to their starting point in Maó. Organised by Maó Town Hall and Arturo Sintes, well known businessman and cycling enthusiast, the aim is to beat last year’s number of participants and the record set in the 1990’s when around 450 cyclists took part in a similar event.
Various trophies will be awarded, there will be three for the oldest participants, three for the youngest, a trophy for the largest group entering and one for the person in the most original costume.
Everyone is welcome, cyclists and spectators, and so even if you are not actively taking part in the Fun Ride why not go along and enjoy the atmosphere. For further information, you can join the event ‘Festa de sa Bicicleta’ on Facebook.
