As early spring moves towards summer, the changing procession of wild flowers each brings its own palette of colour to the countryside, with white and mauve cistus bushes (rock roses), yellow crown daisies and buttercups, blue corn flowers and irises, white and yellow alyssum, pink and purple vetches and not forgetting the profuse array of cheerful bright red poppies. Other widespread flowers include hedysarum coronarium (Italian sainfoin or French honeysuckle), wild gladioli, borrage, convolvuvus (bind week or morning glory) and asphodels. Orchids also abound, with ophrys and serapias being the most prevalent.
All these wonderful images were taken by RTG Images during an excursion organised by Menorca Photography Tours to capture on camera Menorca’s flora in its natural surroundings. To see more of RTG’s amazing portfolio of Menorcan photographs, visit: www.rtgimages.com.
Menorca photography Tours was set up with the specific aim of encouraging people to discover the ‘hidden Menorca’ and encapsulate some of the island’s most picturesque, interesting and magical sights that might otherwise go unnoticed or be missed. From fields and hedgerows profuse with spring flowers to secret ponds that disappear in summer; from virgin beaches that change from wild roaring surfs in winter to calm crystal blue shores in summer; from dramatic and beautiful sunrises and sunsets to the numerous species of birds that come and go with the seasons – such moments can be caught on camera and enjoyed forever.
