Now in its twelfth year, El Pirata is the longest established restaurant and bar in Coves Noves, behind the resort of Arenal d’en Castell. Having worked there since the early days, current owner Toni took over the premises to develop the restaurant side of the business and become the popular El Pirata of today.
From day one, the emphasis has been on quality home cooked food using only the freshest meat, fish and other ingredients. The succulent kebabs of chicken, steak and salmon served with different marinades and sauces are a speciality, the chicken and lemon being a particular favourite amongst many.
Opened under the new management of Toni this year, Can Guixó is a great bar to visit any time of day…from breakfast right through to late at night. The friendly, family atmosphere is evident from the moment Toni greets you with a warm smile….‘mi casa es tu casa’ (my home is your home) is very much the motto here. Indeed, those who are regulars to Na Macaret may recognise a couple of familiar faces helping out, Toni’s parents Jaime and Toñi used to run the popular locals bar on the corner, El Raco.
Many people may not have considered visiting Menorca’s only golf course for a meal. However, for a different type of dining experience, the Golf Son Parc Bar-Restaurant is open to everyone and offers a unique opportunity to enjoy lunch, dinner or snacks at any time of the day with magnificent panoramic views over the golf course and surrounding pine-covered hills. The restaurant is in fact a typical ‘Menorcan boyera’ (or cow shed) which has been converted and extended to provide a relaxed dining environment, with natural protection from the heat during the day. The large terrace area is perfect for summer evening drinks and tapas while watching the changing hues as the sun sets over the countryside or to relax after a game of golf or tennis.
Family fun gastro pub Smithy’s has a wonderful atmosphere all of its own. And, it’s easy to work out why when you experience the warm, friendly welcome from owner John Smith and taste the high quality, well priced food cooked by his wife Cheryl. It’s no wonder people keep returning year after year.
Situated at the far end of Arenal, the bar and restaurant were purpose built in keeping with the local surroundings when John and his family acquired the premises in 2004, and now prides itself in offering customers ‘British know-how with a Mediterranean twist’.

El Castillo (The Castle) is exactly what a local community bar and restaurant should be, a great meeting place to relax and have a drink or two with friends, a reliable venue for some excellent bistro style food and somewhere sociable to join in with what’s going on from sporting events on TV, quiz nights and winter darts tournaments to themed events and festive entertainment according to the season.
