Extreme Man 113 Menorca-Balearic Islands 2011
The countdown is on for the second Extreme Man 113 Menorca-Balearic Islands, a triathlon endurance competition consisting of swimming, cycling and running, which takes place this weekend from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 September 2011, in and around the Fornells area.
Following on from the success of last year’s event and with the winner and several other Spanish and European triathlon finalists being among the 390 athletes who have confirmed their places, Extreme Man 113 Menorca promises to be even bigger and more exciting, and is expected to attract around 5,000 people including participants, visitors to the island and residents of Menorca.
The athletes will have to swim 1900m in the bay of Fornells, cycle 90km (starting and finishing in Fornells and taking in the scenic Camí de Kane) and run 21.1km
between the Fornells Tower and Ses Salines, making 113km in total.
Focused around Mercadal, at the foot of Monte Toro, and the beautiful bay of Fornells fishing village, Menorca's stunning countryside lends itself perfectly to this type of sporting event not only for participants but also for spectators who can also take advantage of the wide range of leisure, gastronomic and cultural activities Menorca has to offer.
On both the Friday and Saturday, there will be an exhibition of special triathlon and general sports clothing and products on the Fornells waterfront, with the opportunity to purchase goods direct from the stands as well as speak with leading brand representatives, try on sports gear and get advice on the best products to suit your requirements, such as wetsuits, bicycles, overalls, helmets, running and cycling shoes, clothing, accessories, swimwear and sunglasses/goggles. You will also be able to purchase all the official Extreme Man merchandise and take advantage of special exhibitors' offers.
Temperatures for the weekend are forecasting a little above average for the time of year, at around 24.0 ºC, with cloud cover on Saturday, little chance of rain and sea water temperatures of around 23.5 ºC. So why not come along and support this exceptional sporting event.
